recently + hawkeye video to make you laugh out your lungs

by - 5/22/2015 06:22:00 pm

Recently, I've been doing a lot of serious posts (not necessarily heavy) so I wanted to do something light-hearted. Life has been stressful yet good to me, and I have a number of things I wanted to post but it wouldn't have worked separately. Plus, I found some great videos. Let's do this.

+ blog button
I've replaced my blog button with a new one that can be found on the sidebar! My friend said it reminded her of the Divergent faction logos. "Haha, that's funny," I replied confidently. "I didn't get the inspiration from that at all!" *sweats nervously*

Not. Even. Alike.

+ new design
So I have a design problem. You might've guessed that already. I probably have had more design changes than bloggers that have run a blog for more than two years. And my blog is what...5 months old? I hope you like it! I like minimalist, you like minimalist, we all like minimalist! Let's sing it together now!

+ hawkeye video as promised in the title

Please watch this. It is beautiful.

+ my life
I had a total of 8 assessments due in the span of 2 weeks, and I've finished 4 (I smell victory)! It's like I'm running a long marathon and I have to jump over these hurdles and the prize is no stress ever again. Except I have 6 exams the week after.

I've been reading 4 books at once (by the way, is this totally normal?): The Shining, The Lord of the Rings, A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Program. And I've finished the latter two!

Wow. To be honest, I was a tad disappointed with ACTR. But maybe I just had high expectations because of the sheer amazingness of Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire.

The Program was fantastic. I heard a lot of complains about how it's paints depression in a false light. I'm pretty ignorant on the subject compared to people who are well-acquainted with it, but it seemed okay in terms of portraying depressed people (let me know if you think differently). Although I'd have liked to know why the suicide epidemic started in the first place?

+ need advice
In my school, you get to have a lot more freedom over your subjects once you become a junior (or Year 11, as we call in). Before that, you can choose 2 subjects (varying from art to humanities), while the rest are compulsory.

I'll be a junior next year, and I was thinking of taking up Computer Science/Information Technology, English/Literature (double), Specialist Math (hardest level) and either Biology or Chemistry. If any of you know anything about any of these subjects, please let me know, even if you aren't a junior! Stuff about level of difficulty, whether it's interesting or not, what kind of things you learn is really useful. It can't be that different in other countries, right?

Thanks for reading!

  1. I didn't even notice the blog redesign, because it looked pretty similar to the old one -- just a different cursor, different header, and moved the navbar down. Colour scheme and stuff are still the same.

Hawkeye's "resting face" while singing is fabulous. Also disappointed with ACOTAR -- going to write a review next Wednesday about its problematic issues.

  2. I love The Shining it's awesome! :D
Also Jimmy Fallon xD He's hilarious I love watching his talk show videos online xD
    11th?Awesome All the best :D
I choose Science in 11th.I studied Physics,Chemistry,Maths,Computer Science and English.
Idk what syllabus is for Maths there but we had calculus : differentiation,Integration and differential equations and everything related to these things. Also statistics and probability and Permutation + Combination/Binomial Theorem.I loved Maths.
In computers we had C++,SQL,Boolean Algebra :P
Physics : Well we had physics..atomics+Nuclear physics and mechanics (Not the car type but physics type Kinetic energy and stuff :P)
Chemistry :Organic Chemistry,Titrations,Acid-Base thingy in detail,Redox etc etc..Also detailed study of periodic table.
You should choose subjects not according to what is easy or according to your interest but according to what you plan to be in future if you have decided. If you haven't decided then pick a subject that you like.If there is like an option where you can try a class before choosing it take that option.
All the very best pick carefully and wisely :D
    Study hard :D

Wow, sounds like great skill sets. I can tell that you are a logical person (but ai could be wrong). Thanks for sharing the information, especially Maths and Chemistry! My IT told me what we need for it but I just wanted to see if it seems enjoyable. :) Thank you so much for your advice! I shall study hard in keeps your words in my mind (whilst studying). xD

  3. I saw that Hawkeye video before I saw AOU and I almost cried; it's so beautiful. *tears up* I used to read four books at a time before I discovered Netflix and promptly sold my soul to it.

I have no clue about varying classes as I use a certain homeschool course which only provides the basic courses. Maybe when I become a junior I'll have more to choose from. I'd really rather just go back to first grade and do phonics and basic addition though.

    1. YES. *cries* Awh, that's too bad, there have been some really good books that came out recently. But Netflix > life, of course.

Oh, that's okay! It's funny how little kids want to be in high school, and high schoolers want to be little kids. I got straight As as a child. Good times. xD

  4. TAKE BIOLOGY.

I'm taking Chem Honors right now, and even though I can tell the class is easy, it STINKS for me. It's practically another math class (to be fair, the math is simple algebra, but it's still math). I don't know. It kind of depends--if you're a math person, take it. If you're not, don't.

    1. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Actually, I was leaning towards Bio anyway because I'm just really into genetics. Although both classes do genetics, chemistry looks at genetic structure/makeup (apparently) and biology on it's putcomes. I'm definitely not a maths person so I'll take Bio. Thank you!

  6. I watched the Hawkeye video last week and I couldn't resist watching it again. It's so good!

I guess it depends on what you want to do on leaving school. If you are only doing English to get into uni, then I would concentrate on taking Science subjects. I thought I wanted to to do agriculture, so I took Chem, Bio, English, Drama, Calculus and Stats. But now I'm not sure, so I'm glad I have a balance of English/Math/Science subjects to pick to continue on with. I know that some people struggle with Chem having a lot of math, but I don't think it's very complicated, and it relates back to practicals, rather than being theory. Then, again, I love math, so...

Can you work back from what you need at uni to see what subjects you should take? :)

    1. I know right? xD

I see. I want to do genetics in uni, so Bio seems good. I'm definitely not a math person, though. It must be hard for those who don't know what they want to do at uni. Thanks for the tips, Opal! :)

  12. I am awkwardly dropping by for the first time and, as such, am slightly unable to give you any opinions on old vs. new designs - but if it helps, I very much like the one you have now. Simplicity + minimalism are virtues, if you ask me. ;)

On your subjects - I took Molecular Bio this year (as a freshman, if that helps; so that would be Year 9 for you, I believe?) and it sort of killed me. It was my hardest class by far - definitely incredibly interesting, but also the reason for many, many sleepless nights. On the other hand, though, I've heard Chem is basically a glorified math class, so if that's something you're into it might be more interesting for you.

Wow, you did molecular bio in year 9? The education system is very different where you live. I'm glad you found it interesting at least. :) Oh no, I hate maths! Maybe I'll stick to Biology after all. Thank you for the advice!
