the day of birthing + thanks for your submissions!

by - 5/10/2015 06:15:00 pm

Shared cake with Dad because his birthday's 9 days before mine. His blurry hand got cut off in this photo.
I canz photography! Just kidding, I'm an amateur.
Ooh, more dramatic close-ups.
There are ten candles but I'm not actually ten, by the way. It's my birthday! Soon I'll have to think about universities and what I'll major in and whatnot.*pretends to be chill but is actually panicking* It seemed like only yesterday I was in my tweens, when did time fly by so quick? I can feel my bones creaking already!

Anyway, I want to thank you for your submissions. I expected, I don't know, maybe 10 comments (including mine)? BUT THEN I GOT LIKE 40 and oh my, it was quite a surprise. I'm going to post all your six word stories really soon, so keep an eye out!

One last question for you before I end this post: do you think life gets harder as the years pass, and we grow wiser? I've been trying to figure life out for ages; I'd be thankful if you could provide an insight!

  1. Oh wow, your birthday is on Mother's Day -- I hadn't noticed! Also, I love the captions under the photos (they're absolutely fabulous photos, too.) I still think it's 2012 sometimes, maybe the apocalypse happened and we're all not actually this old.

Looking forward to reading everyone's six word stories!

    1. It is! I didn't even notice until a comment notified me. Thanks, I have awful dry humour. XD That's a reasonable conclusion. It could be that we're stuck inside one of those hotels in the first Percy Jackson that makes time fly past. I wouldn't put it past the gods.

      Me, too!

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The cake looks amazing :) I'm looking forward to seeing all the stories :)

I think life is getting harder in the sense that we have more responsibility and worry, but also easier because we understand more of the world and have more 'tools' to help us live- not that that always makes us happy because the world can be sad. Being wise doesn't make you happy, but if you are wise about picking out the happy parts to remember, life can be easier. Each stage of life has it's easy and hard bits... I guess the secret is to just enjoy each part for what it is :)

    1. THANK YOU! It tasted better than it looked. >:)

Yeah, I'm leaning towards that explanation at the moment. At least, no one can disagree with what you said about added responsibility. That's good advice...I'll make sure to live in the moment. :)

  3. Hi Jo, happy birthday! :) The cake looks delicious. Love the chocolate on it. Those are great photos of the cake. I'd like to think that life does have its ups and downs but that's just something we have to go through. This is probably going to sound a little philosophical, haha. I actually remember this quote from C.S Lewis, he said, "Experience is a brutal teacher, but my God, how you learn." I suppose that would answer the question a little. We definitely become wiser and learn through new experiences. It's the best way of learning from our mistakes as well. Have a lovely day. :)

I'm all ears for philosophy! C.S. Lewis has once again proven his wisdom. That's true, I suppose when you grow up you have many experiences that help you as life gets harder. Experience is harsh, but you're right, otherwise we wouldn't learn as we do! You too, I love your blog! :)

  6. Happy birthday Jo,i hope you're having a good day. And to answer your question (even though I'm still thirteen and probably don't know what the heck I'm on about.) I think they balance each other out. Yeah, life probably gets harder as the years pass. it's just how life works I think. But each passing day you learn something new, you become wiser therefore being able to take on the coming years with new knowledge you've obtained from the years prior to them.Once again happy birthday.

Hope you guys enjoyed the cake. It looks gorgeous from the photos!
I think that life depends more on perspective. If you want to treat mistakes like experience instead of endoftheworldsyntaxerror then I'm quite sure life would be a lot less stressful :)

Yeah, that's true. Now I don't know which idea I like more, yours or the life-gets-harder-but-we-get-wiser theory. :)

  8. THOSE PHOTOS ARE AMAZING WHAT

Anyway happy birthdayyyy! ^^ Yeah, everyone keeps telling me that I'm growing so fast too and I'm like "nope I'm still 10" and try to ignore the fact that I'm in high school already. why did I want to become a teenager again?

I used to try and figure out life but I decided that I probably won't ever have "life" figured out, even when I'm about to die. I've decided that I'm just gonna try to make it through each year without messing up really bad and follow that pattern forever. (whoaa I'm so positive :P)

  9. Happy Birthday!Cake looks absolutely delicious!
I turn 20 this year and I'd like to think I would be a little more wiser than I was when I turned 19.University and major choosing is definitely a big decision to make. Choosing wisely is tough but if done right is the best thing ever.Life does get hard but it also gets better if you look at the silver linings I'm not saying I'm have no issues or that I'm always looking at silver linings all the times but I'd like to do that.We all go through our own experiences and have our own trouble but we always have something to look forward to.Even when things seem really hard always remember that night is darkest just before the dawn :)
Even great artists and scientist couldn't figure out the meaning of life who am I to figure it out so I'm gonna give it a meaning that makes me happy.Sounds better way, doesn't it! :D
So just enjoy your birthday and life, stop trying to figure out what life is :P

Wow, you're old. Kidding! I heard 20 is your prime age, the age in your life that you will be most healthy, attractive, energetic, etc. Yeah, right now I'm trying to get an idea of which major I might take. It's nice to know that you like computer engineering (was that your major?). Thanks for your advice, wise old man (again, kidding). :)
That sounds good, to make a meaning for yourself. Okay, I will. :')

  10. Happy birthday!

Those are some awesome pictures! And yummy looking cake. ;)

Life I think gets more complex as you have to make decisions for yourself. But it's a constant learning process. You'll never be "there." Nobody's perfect. I think life is a journey and how you live that journey is what makes the destination worth it.

When I think about it like that, it makes sense! We might as well make the most of what we can. :)

  11. First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Secondly to your question: I think life does get harder in a way. Each year we are given more responsibilities and more tasks and more things to do. But, as we get older, we become mature. We become wiser. If you making bad decisions, you're going to suffer on that account and things are going to seem a lot harder. Plus, God is only going to give us what we can handle. It may seem more like that sometimes, but He has it under control.

    Good thought-provoking expression. :)
And the cake looks delicious. You must give me some. xD
